Gratitude

We want to introduce grateful Mondays to you all… When do you ever sit and reflect on what you have and feel grateful for it? In the UK we don’t have Thanksgiving, but even if we did – is once a year really enough to be thinking about what we have and being thankful? We don’t think it is, and here’s why…

First and foremost, it’s just such a positive feeling to be grateful for what you have in your life. It’s good for you and good for others. Just thinking about the good things in life can help us appreciate these things and make us feel happier. Being thankful can really ooze out of you and the people around you will notice the difference in you. Your gratitude can act as a domino effect and encourage others to become more grateful for things in their lives.

Secondly, it’s very difficult to experience negative emotions such as fear, anger, upset, whilst feeling grateful. Try it. There has been a lot of research into how gratitude can be a useful coping mechanism during times of stress and trauma. Additionally, studies have found that being thankful can also help with depression and could even lead to fewer visits to the doctor.

It’s such a simple concept, but it really can achieve a lot. So what can we be grateful for? We can be grateful for people generally being in our lives, we can be grateful for the qualities that others add to our lives such as laughter or fun, we can be grateful to have certain possessions or materialistic elements in our lives, we can be grateful for good health. Sometimes it’s good to be grateful of things that we take for granted every day, such as walking, being able to see or hear, being able to eat. There are a whole host of things we can be grateful for.

We know Mondays can often be the most dreaded day of the week, we thought a great way to start the week would be to share what we are grateful for on social media. We’d love for you to share what you are grateful for when we share what we are. Don’t feel as though you are restricted to grateful reflection only on a Monday – the more often, the better – we just thought it would be a lovely way to start the week!
